winning noise coming from Tranny or T case

I got in my jeep yesterday and as soon as i hit about 35-40 mph it starts making this wining sound and changes with speed. i have no clue what it is.
The jeep is a 88 xj

Its an auto and it just started. its not a wheel bearing. and i lifted the back and put it in gear and it is coming from the tranny or T-case.

Have you wheeled it lately? Did you by chance bend the skid plate a bit. My old XJ did that after my skid plate bent up and the t-case was against the floor pan.

I had a 232 tcase in my tj do that when I bent a shift fork in it.

you think it could be the chain?

Unless you are very low on fluid, I would doubt it's the chain. The chain will whine when dry but will be more of a clank if it's loose.

found out it my rearend so i am pulling the diff cover to see whats going on.
