ok thought i would catch you all up on what i have done to the yoda here is what started it all

430422_220140178081378_195336057228457_413604_356832693_n.jpg418460_220140124748050_195336057228457_413603_331173200_n.jpg

i am told leafsprings are not suppose to have those cute little sharp bends in them

so we started with gathering up some parts

431693_220140081414721_195336057228457_413601_1695224819_n.jpg400368_220140208081375_195336057228457_413605_1839497362_n.jpg

the link bars and springs are stuff i found in the junk yard springs are front f350 powerstoke springs and they have surprised me thought the would be stiffer and all the tabs and brackets are from JC at midnite 4X4

427144_220140304748032_195336057228457_413608_1488113887_n.jpg426522_220140271414702_195336057228457_413607_1961645611_n.jpg

we started by locating the center spring mount and yes it was designed to pivot and mount to the frame and mounting a universal axle truss to the 14 bolt to mount upper links to
426368_220140061414723_195336057228457_413600_1947731634_n.jpg431651_220140501414679_195336057228457_413611_1309947567_n.jpg

then we got the leafs mounted to the center mount and mounted the front end to the frame and yes the springs are in there as frownies this system is what i would call a floating eliptical not sure what the rest of the world would consider it

That's usually called a 1/4 elliptical spring setup--yours is still a semi-elliptic spring since you didn't cut it, but it's doing the same basic thing. The "usual" setup is to have the springs cut just past center, and the center pin area clamped in a solid mount where your pivoting thing is now.

well then we mounted the link bars and got the all the shackles mounted up

and then we had to do a few jack tests
View attachment 71658View attachment 71659View attachment 71660

then mount the shocks and i really do not like where they are at but seem to work fine in the shop

418034_235662376529158_195336057228457_451664_673921906_n.jpg

then on to testing what we could in the driveway and really i am pleased with the way it flexxes

flexxed.jpg529156_248923298536399_195336057228457_483730_1895711873_n.jpg

so i know this is kind of a short write up and i am sure things will get changed and rebuilt and and i do have a couple of problems with this 1 it the angle of the lower links and one is not having the room to put the springs inside the frame but we will see how bad that hurts me saterday at little moab

yea i have really never understood why cut them i would rather use the full spring and have seen alot of the half springs broken they use to do it on the older chev coil rears with half springs as overloads

Very interesting setup... In my opinion, your rear shocks are not going to be very (if at all) effective mounted how and where they are, unless they are the stiffest shocks known to man. Is there no option for mounting them more vertically and much closer to the axle?

not really and keep the travel need to get longer shocks and then i could but the testing i have done in the driveway says they will stop the boat action we will see tomorrow going to test at little moab but i do tend to agree in a fast driving situation
