I just want to drive it! Make it reliable and go for a drive... there may be some epic roadtrips in the future with this car.
You know, I just don't get the mullet comments.... this is a perfect example of a mean muscle car from the 1960's. A mullet isn't even on my radar when I think of GM muscle cars, instead I think about cruising on the weekends, street racing, dumping all my money into engine mods, power sliding the car, etc, etc.
Drums all the way round, the A body cars didn't get front discs until later on. I'm fairly certain it's a 10 Bolt rear.
Yeah, the idea of a dirt bike hauler was brought up on FB! As was the idea of air bags.... could you imagine, dump the air, set the frame on the ground and just about roll a dirtbike out of the back! Hopefully my shoulder heals up enough that I can get another bike for the back of this thing!

Sounds about right.
I've never even heard that phrase to be honest with you. I really dislike that people associate 60's muscle cars with mullets, weren't they an 80's thing?!?

I’m with Greg on this the whole mullet hessian aggression thing is 80’s cars. Show me a fiberglass front clip z28 and I think mullets and music where the whole band sings the chorus.
But a 60’s el Camino is classic and bad ass in every sense of classic American muscle.

for me the mullet had more to do with putting it on a 4wd chassis and lifting it, that was an 80's era modification

I don't mean to derail your thread Greg but I thought I'd share my project. This is my '64 Ranchero. I've had it for awhile and it's been with me through three moves. It will be receiving spindles and rear end out of a V-8 Ranchero of the same year. It will also be getting a 302 and C-4 out my brother's '69 Mustang. I'll get it driving someday.

I really want to make that happen this Fall, say Sept or Oct. I just need to make sure this car is reliable, without overdrive I won't be going too fast. But yeah, another RME Drive sounds great.... Highway 12 would be epic.

So we got the car home, took some more pics of it from different angles. That steering wheel has to go, the tires are totally dry rotted, I keep finding more bad rust and bondo and wondering if it's even worth fixing.... a big part of me says just leave it as-is, fix the mechanicals and drive the hell out of it. The interior looks good, but needs attention. Worst of all, the engine oil pressure is VERY low... I'll toss a new pump in and see what happens. It may getting an truck LS-swap sooner rather than later.

I had thought about that, but I don't think the suspension, brakes or the rest of the car are up to any serious towing. It just wasn't built for that.
That is exactly where my mind set is, I even told my wife the other day that this was a 30 footer. I have 0 intentions of making this a show car, it looks pretty good as is and I think I will just take care of the minor work it needs and leave the body work alone.
I agree, I think a lot of people lump together certain generations and aspects when they don't know enough about the time period.
It's definitely going to be a fun project and enjoyable to get on the road and start putting some miles on it. I think it would be a blast to take it on a week long road trip somewhere.

If this was my car (I really wish it was) I would focus on drivetrain upgrades and putting a rowdy 6.0 in it. Drive it for a Season then likely either get bored sell it and move on or love it and do the body work. Either way I’m a huge fan of these cars and have wanted one for awhile I just don’t have the time for project cars these days.

We will see how swapping the oil pump goes, if I can make it run reliably with the current 350 it will stay for a while. I already has more than enough projects on my plate at the moment, really don't need to jump right into a LS swap in this car right now. I was hoping that I could gather parts for the eventual swap and start it once I had everything.
