Katelynn and I took 1st in our class. Big Rich had set the courses up with extra bonuses so the courses could be done with more stock vehicles. There was such a variety of rigs the Sportman C class had 14 with rich talking about splitting the group up after day one. After day 1 we were in 3rd Not knowing where they would put us.

Day 2 we started and just did our thing on the first 2 courses. A fellow competitor told us we were in 2nd behind them after the split and Ryan was moved into C+ category. We did ok but not awesome in my eyes on our first 3 courses. With -24, -25 and -26 scores. 2 of those had a best possible of -40 and one ad a best possible of -50. Our very last course we were able to hit all the bonus cones and only 3 reverses and ended with a -47 out of -50.

With the competition spit into 3 groups I had no idea where we stood and thought we had maybe good enough for 2nd or 3rd for the weekend. Delta is suppose to be for fun but competition is always there but the weekend was fun so we were happy with our efforts. When scores were posted we were really excited to see where we ended up.

It was fun to see old friends and get to know other people better. Fun to have 4 XJs representing. So happy with Katelynn and how well she is driving the jeep and getting it down. Hopefully we can get more people out to Delta in the future because it really is a fun event. Ok, I have a minute to write.

Super fun weekend, and I can’t thank Steve enough for inviting me down to spot for him. He is an amazing driver and really knows his Bronco well! It’s amazing what he can do with that rig!

You know the stars are aligned when every time you have a major break down, you are able to scab together the replacement parts and get back on course!

I went hoping to be able to watch some of the Ryan/Nate show and the Katelyn/Keven show but with all vehicles showing up they always seemed to be on the other end of the world.

But it was a highlight to be able to hang out with Johnny and Dan, Hippie and Robbie, Amber and Eric, Chris and Matt, and Mike and family. It was fun to see how well everyone did on their respective courses. Dang Hippie just seemed to able to have more friendly courses! (nice 2nd place!)

I always love that even though everyone is trying to win, that you find yourself cheering for your fellow competitors when they finish a tough course.

I do have to give a huge shout out to Johnny, after Aaron lawn darted his TJ and it caught on fire I found myself throwing dirt on the flame for officially zero effect, but Johnny who was farther away grabbed the fire extinguisher from his rig came running up behind me to actually put the fire out.
Very well done my friend! Sorry I didn’t get pics!

Rich and Shelley- thank you for putting on another awesome event. I feel that this event was much needed for the entire community, as it seemed like more than anything, it was a huge family reunion with a rock crawling competition on the side. A lot of great times we’re had on course, and even better memories made by the campfire.

So........what happened with the classes anyway? Because the “old” rule book is still posted on the DeltaClassic website, but at some point, the event switched over to WeRock rules? Like, the morning of day one? Or was the rule book change posted somewhere else, and I just missed it?

And for the record, I’m fine with running werock rule book, especially if it makes it easier on Big and Shelley, but it seems like it was a last minute change, which caused a ton of confusion.

I found out I was in a different class halfway through the second day.... it was bullshit, I'm still not happy about it.

Rich had so many different style rigs He didn't know what to do with them. We had full tubed Toyotas and flat bed Toyotas and heavily modified XJs and Broncos and CJs and such. I don't know why things where moved as they were. They could have had a full class of just Toyotas. It is suppose to be a fun event and I think it was. Rich was just in a difficult place and he split them up however HE felt was fair.

When yah have a tube buggy, in the the same class as a Cherokee, and yah move a Bronco to the next class up because he has an atlas, that's a problem. Also stated above, the Delta Classic rules were there, on the DCRC page. They either need to be deleted or updated. Its a fun event, but when we spend tons of money to get a rig in a certain class, and then rules are changed, ignored, or special rules are made, its very annoying.

Bingo! My rig is built 100% to stock class and Sportsman C rules.

Splitting the class was stupid, what was wrong with leaving everyone in Sportsman C?

We had amazing time! Next year we will definitely be showing up Friday and camping the whole weekend. We met so many cool people and even the baby had a great time.

I was a little miffed that we got put in Sportsman C+ class based solely on the fact that i have three shifters for my transfercases. I felt like i was the most "stockish" rig there in the same class with people no body panels left.

So good to put a face with a rig and avatar! Glad you came!

You and Alvarez were such cool people and awesome sports about jumping into the deep end of the pool and just having a good time!

I loved your willingness to learn the situation (Competition/Judging/etc), ask questions as they came up, and just be a part of Old School Rock Crawl family/group!

Definitely see you around!

so was the C/C+ split based on the ability to do front digs?
Nope, also "driver ability." ie Katelynn's XJ has front digs and they remained in C. But she also has a lot of comp driving experience. Shawn's rig does not have front digs, is a manual and he doesn't have much comp experience but it's linked in the rear.

Oh well, hats off to the complainers that made the class change happen. You know who you are

EDIT: Front digs are also commonplace at actual WERock events in C.
