I should have taken pictures, but there was an older Toyota (FJ60?) broken on the trail, which blocked us from going any further. The thing was super ghetto-rigged and half taken apart. There were plenty of things that could have been done to move this thing out of the way, but no, he/she had to shut down the trail. They also left a fire that was still burning when we got there around 11:30-Midnight... We're nice, so we put it out for whichever retard left it burning, that would have been unfortunate if that fire lit the trees that were 5-10 feet away on fire and burned down that part of the trail - that's the kind of crap that gets trails closed.

Please be considerate and move your junk out of the way if you break it. ;)

PS: ALWAYS put out your fire!

i was up there around 10:30 and the fire was out, it was smoking a little bit. it probably just relit its self. And for the rig, ya it was blocking the trail but to me i don't think he/she could have moved it very easily. it was sitting on three tires and one of which look like it was just slid in the rear axel, and it was sitting on a high lift. with the whole rear axel taking part ring gear and everything. and the whole truck was being held up with the winch around a tree, and tires blocked off with rocks.

stating the obvious, but they could have moved it when the tires were still on.

I heard this same story from a coworker this morning when I came in...

He said it was a brocken C-Clip rear axle and a possible broken carrier/locker cause the new axle would not slide in right.... He was also bummed no one could get thru.

From my perspective, Def the best thing to do would have been to use a high lift jack handle to retain the wheel-tire/axle shaft and get it out of the way.

Thats essentially the end of the trail and getting it out with a winch in 3-wheel-peel would have not taken so long at all.

I have no idea of the experience level of this individual or the means of getting their hands on a tandem trailer to get it home, but hopefully because of this situation next time they should be able to recognize that they need to try to get to the side of the trail if at all possible.

We'll make sure to cover this at the quarterly training day, although the people that usually need to hear it aren't the type to attend a training day...

Honestly the fire thing is the only part that bothers me, yeah it sucks to block the trail. But as previously stated shit happens, and sometimes you are just hosed.

However, leaving a campfire unattended in that area is uncalled for. I know it's early spring and everything is still wet. But that could have started the whole Herriman fire thing again, especially with the crazy wind storms we have had lately.

The fire being left and winching directly to a tree with no tree saver are bad for the land.

Plus, If he would've moved it 10 feet before taking it apart it wouldn't have blocked the trail.

If you have 38 inch tire and a 30 inch high lift handle theres no way your goin to retain the broken side axle....

Before you asume it was me... it wasnt! but i was there and we did everything we could to get his rig outa there, diffed in the front, broke in the rear, reverse was not an option.it sucks to block a trail but it will happen now and then. As far as the fire it was not 5 to 10 feet from the trees!!! and it was out when we left the rig there, very possible the wind did restart the fire, but highly doughtfull.....If it did ,then i thank you for putting it out,as any reponsible four wheeler would have done ...

I'll assume, since you're a Slick Rock Punk AND a member of Rock Crew, that you are referring to your buddy leaving the truck on the trail (which sucks but hey, it happens) and NOT the tree-saver comment (which is sh*tty, and no good at all)? ;)

Not to dogpile, but if the wind "restarted the fire" then it wasn't out, was it? And if you all didn't have water or shovels to put it out properly, you shouldn't have lit it in the first place.
