Too many trucks will be a problem, but we can stage below the switchbacks and only take up the rigs we need (the heavy ones with big winches!). I don't think we'll be in danger of too many people, as long as everybody is on the same page with Bart calling the shots.

I just got off the phone with Cheryl Butler at the FS. She's the best. She's notifying their LEO that it's up there so they don't treat it as an abandoned vehicle.

snwbrdr852, she recommended calling the lone peak sherrif to let them know that it's up there and it's not an abandoned vehicle. There's no way they'll go up there to look at it, but at least they'll have a record that it's not abandoned and there's a plan in place to extract it.

If you want to try using rebar for anchors, with a welded on t at the top I can bring them. I have access to as much as we want, in any length. And it doesn't cost anything.

Maybe it's been mentioned but could we use several anchors (rebar ,shafts ect.) with 2 ft straps and then hook the main strap , cable whatever to that? To kinda spread the load out or maybe that was already the plan

Haha, Yoda would be a nice friend to have right about now.

Called Lone Peak and they redirected me to Utah County. The guy basically said that as long as the FS doesn't have a problem with it being there, then he's not worried about it either, but he'd get back to me if there's an issue.

James, at this point I don't think I'm the one to make that call. I definitely wouldn't mind it being anchored for the next 2 days, but don't want to hinder Friday's efforts either...?

Suggestion: Since security and or vandalism are a worry, if someone has the time they could go up there and hang out with a tent and whatever protection they feel ok with until the rescue crew get there. should be plenty warm.

Depending on what happens with my sister coming into town I might be better off heading up tonight to fill that request Bart.

I've done a recovery up MEG before and know that I can get from my house to about where this rig is in under 2.5 hours so if I'm able to go Friday I'll be able to run with the fast driving crew.

Ah, sounds like 7:30 it is. I appreciate you willing to take the lead Bart. And know that I don't/won't blame anyone but myself.

I obviously don't have a truck to take up, but I'll bring my (knockoff) HiLift, shovel, shackles, snatch block, tow strap, tree strap, and a bunch of hand tools to recover what I can in case things go bad.

I will go up today to get the pictures if i have another rig or 2 with me, hate traveling those roads without support just in case, you know.
Otherwise i will be in the p-lot by 7:30am to assist in anyway i can.

It may be wise to call the forest service to let them know the vehicle is there and that a recovery is in progress.

Those look cool. BTW, I will probably have a seat also, but my passenger floor gets very hot.

I'll leave that up to snwbrdr852, but I don't think the anchors/wood would hurt. Not sure about the straps, especially if they are blocking the trail to ATVs, which I hope there won't be any of.

In that case, feel free to put some anchors and straps in today/tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about blocking the trail because it only goes a couple hundred feet past my truck and anyone trying to get around it would be endangering it big time anyway.

And on the note of gear, Kurt had volunteered his pull pal also, if anyone is up that way and can get in contact with him.
