    Hog Canyon

At one time there were barricades at the pinnacles put there by an overzealous BLM employee we had at the time. The local BLM people don't seem to be too concerned about it. It's debateable whether the pinnacles are actually part of that trail or not. We were supposed to have a new management...

    Kanab Area Trails

Canyon Country 4x4 Club no longer has a website, but we do have a Facebook group. I'm up to my ears in commercial tours and I don't get out on the trails as much as I would like these days. The rigs you have would be fun on the Hog Canyon trails. I would be happy to send maps and some advice on...

    White Pine trail?

When I drove it the lakes were there. The road looked like it had been there for some time.(I hiked up the road some time in the early 70's which is how I knew it was there.) I don't know if they did any expansion after that, 1976 was the last time I was there.

    White Pine trail?

I remember driving up to White Pine a few times in 1976 in my FJ40. Great trail, sad that it is no more.

    Utah's 30 most challenging Obstacles/Trails

The trail north of Wild West we called Craig's List. Not a buggy only trail, but there are optional obsticals that are more hard core. I drove my FJ40 through which is only good for a 6/10 on the Sand Hollow scale, but like all the trails in that area there are alternates to make the trails more...

    Spring Fling in Kanab

Dave, thanks for the report and great pictures. Hopefully we will do this again next year and maybe have some new trails open by then.

    Deck footings how deep?

30" deep below finished grade for frost depth. Diameter isn't as important as your footings aren't supporting much weight, but personally, I'd do 12" dia. and reinf. to keep them from breaking apart. If you don't have time to have rebar fabricated, wrap some heavy fence wire around (4) #4 or #5...

South-West Utah Spring Fling in Kanab, June 8th & 9th

Yeah, on Sunday we keep it open and run a trail depending on what the people staying for Sunday want to do. Dinner and drawing are at the Jacob Hamblin park 100 E. 500 N. in Kanab. We'll start at 5:00 pm

South-West Utah Spring Fling in Kanab, June 8th & 9th

Steve, If you have one of the BLM route maps, the Barracks trail is route #20 all the way through. You can start at either the Elephant Cove trailhead or the turnoff by Mt.Carmel Junction. (The more difficult way due to the big sand hill) The water right now is very low.

South-West Utah Spring Fling in Kanab, June 8th & 9th

Dave, look for the sand quarry/ open area about 1 1/2 mile north of Kanab on Hwy 89 on the east side. That's the turnoff to Hog Canyon. There is also a sign on 89 now at the turnoff. We have a staging area about 1/2 mile up the Canyon where we'll be meeting Saturday morning. We want to have the...

South-West Utah Spring Fling in Kanab, June 8th & 9th

Coming up this Saturday. Hoping to see some RME'rs there. Another place to Camp with a motorhome would be the Peekaboo trailhead on highway 89 a few miles north of Hog Canyon. I've seen a few camped ther lately and it's right off the paved highway. We will do a trail for stock vehicles and...

South-West Utah Spring Fling in Kanab, June 8th & 9th

You can park and camp at the Hog Canyon staging area, but it's about a half mile off highway 89 on a dirt road. If you don't mind taking a motor home on the dirt, great. The flat area next to the highway where you turn off into Hog Canyon is private property and I can't tell anyone that it is...

I'd recommend the Savage Point trail. Some fun obstacles but nothing extreme. We usually don't break any rigs on this trail.
