Hey,
I dont post here much but I have read tons on here. I finally started my 4runner build on monday. I have been waiting like 2 months to start this thing. I had to let my roommate drive it while he got his new truck up and running, Brians (tjdukit) truck was stranded in my garage for 2 weeks... anyway So far, the IFS is out, POS tranny out, and the POS 3.0 engine is ready to come out. I just have to pull it. Still have to drop the fuel tank and cut the rear end up to take the coils out. then lots of grinding and soon I can start welding.
I have the other engine (22re, bored 20 over, forged pistons, ported/polished head) and tranny, all ready to throw in. Along with the engine Im putting a heliux super high output clutch, dual cases, a 5 inch lift allpro front conversion, and leafing the rear with a 5in allpro lift. The front axle is an fj80 third with 5.29s, an e-locker and high steer, the rear is the v6 third and 5.29/e-locker. to finish it all off (for now... Im gonna go bigger later) a set of 33in MTRs.
Its been a lot of fun so far. Being that I have everything that I need to get the rig going, it shouldnt take too long to get it on the road.

I originally thought that I was going to call it a night after I got the tranny out and cleaned up the garage a bit but I got bored and had a second wind. I ended up taking out the engine last night too. All things considered this is all going WAY to easy so far.
It seems so far like this engine swap isn't going to be very hard. The v6 harness is all out and I just have to do a little wire diagram comparing if I want any of my dash lights to work. I think I'm just going to do water temp, a/c, ignition and whatever else I really want to have. The 22re harnes I have is pretty much stand alone. It would run on an engine stand if I put fuel to it. Tonight I'm going to start all the grinding and clean up the frame a bunch. Maybe start figuring out where I need to put the engine mounts on the frame.
I still have a ton of work to do but I'm guessing it'll take less than 3 weeks to get it up and running. Less than a month before its off road-able. Ill have another picture up in a bit...

Why on earth are u tearing out the rear coils???? they are the best thing about a 2gen 4runner, i have a 91 4runner and the coiled rear rides and flexes twice as good as the leafs up front, man i just don't understand it coils rock, only thing beter is coil overs, so please let me in on the logic of getting rid of coils for leafs? Other than that i love the doubles and a high performance 22RE not trying to bag to much but i'm really confused?

I honestly like leafs better for a few reasons. I like a little stirdier feeling ride. I like the payload better with leafs. I can throw 3 other people in with me and gear in the back and still wheels. Not with coils though. I like not needing a sway bar. And lastly I like the feel better with a good set of leafs. Not only on the trail but also on the road. The whole rig will just feel more drivable to me. I like a little rougher ride. here are the latest pics.
This build os going pretty quick so far. Im kind of at the point where I need to get the wiring started so thats going to eat up some time but thats ok. I should be able to have it running by the end of the day. Just have to get the fuel pump and the ignition going.

well after a frustrating afternoon in the garage... I have decided that I am going to have more work than I thought I would with the wiring. I got everything hooked up like it should be and I ran a jumper to the fuel pump to see iif it would fire up. Nothing... I think its going to take a couple days of wiring. Im not looking forward to it.

Stay with it, one wire at a time, dont forget to check the simple stuff first, gas spark ect. befor thinking you have a computer problem.

The thing that sucks is there is no way to tell if your getting power to the computer at all. I have everything hooked up the way that its supposed to be I think, and it won't run. I have a couple of long days at work so I won't even get a real chance to start on it untill Thursday.
I looked over your build rick and it looks like I have to do about the same thing you did with the wires. I'm gonna take the inside apart tonight when I get home if I'm not completely wiped out from work. Then I'm going to unwire everything tomorrow evening. I wish there was an easier way to do this...
