Addicted Offroad's Double Cab. Project "Frenchy"

This is such a cool build. I frenched the rear hangers on the Rot Box and it was well worth the effort. I'm interested in seeing the outcome with the steering. Toyota's are annoyingly tough to keep a low stance with hi-steer but I'm sure you've got it figured out. Can't wait to see more

Looking at the third picture it looks like the spring is too close to the bottom of the frame. I am thinking when the spring gets compressed it would hit the frame and bottom out. Would you be able to enlighten me? Is it just the angle of the picture?

It should be fine. I think its just an optical illusion be 2D, but there should be enough clearance. The top, antiwrap leaf is actually an inch or two behind the edge of the frenched hanger, so it should have plenty of clearance.

we plated the frame on the inside of each frame rail as well as the front section of the outside in front of the body mount. Its not going anywhere.

I hate taking pics without cleaning the welds up as they look like ass otherwise, but this will give you the idea.

So, here are some pics with tires on it. The axles are sitting on jack stands. Tire is off the ground 1" and I would take out another 1" for tire squat. Frame height is 25.5" roughly. So, with 33s it should be 23.5".

Add 2" of height for 37s and it would be 25.5". And, it hasn't settled yet.

Thank you for your explanation. I really like the work and the direction of the build.

Got the rear buttoned up. 5.29s installed in the rear diff with a solid pinion spacer. Set pinion angle. Just need some shorter shocks for the rear to come in to get them mounted.

Radiator will be here on Tuesday too.

Steering box and flat pitman arm are installed. Again, we frenched the box into the frame to allow clearance for the arm to swing and clear the castle nut on the tierod.

Then we started mocking up the custom front bumper.

On a side note, I realized last week that TG has sent me the wrong front springs. They sent me 5" front springs, so they shipped me out the correct ones. Needless to say this lowered the frame height even more. Right now we are sitting at 24-3/8" on 285/70/17s. Keep in mind that is with brand new springs and it should settle an inch or so.

Yeah for sure! I am learning a lot about building with my buggy build, it take time, but it is worth it to take your time and do it right the first time

Looks killer. I love the stance. How does it drive on the road? Is the caster liveable? Excellent job getting a taco that low on leaf springs, that's quite the feat. That is the first Utah street-legal SAS taco I've seen on 37s.

Did you have to trim the front fenders at all?

Hm... replace my steering rack, or do a sas???

Caster is at 8* with 3* shims. We had to shim it. With a Diamond this wouldn't have been an issue, but with the Rock Assault being a "one size fits all" design we had to shim the springs slightly.

Its drives EXCELLENT. No wobble, no issues.

Did you test flex the Tacoma to check for clearance? To me it looks like the customer might have a lot of trimming to do.
