Back country Trailer

Just when I thought I was done on the frame I decided it needed a receiver hitch on the back just in case I decide to put the bike rack on or what ever. Better to have than not have. Was able to finish up the frame for now. Cleaned it up and got it primed and a couple coats of paint put on it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401155950.204532.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1401155962.852748.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1401155979.071202.jpg
Even got a start on the swivel hitch. My plans are to have the trailer back on wheels and the hitch done by the time the wife shows up here this coming weekend with the Jeep. I need to drill and tap the one ball bushing and put a grease fitting in before I can start tacking it together.

I have been looking at the rotating hitch plans online also. Let us know how it works out

Did some more work on the hitch today and rolled the frame out and set the tub on it to start figuring what I wanted to start next. I'm thinking of having the tub blasted to get rid of all the rust then start patching up some of the holes and deciding what I should do with the damage on the front of the tub. Should probably cut of the damage and weld on some new sheet metal. I think the hitch is coming along pretty good. It's testing my welding abilities.

I did some more work on the hitch today. Looks like it's going to work as advertised. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Sorry I haven't updated this in awhile. I haven't gotten back to it because this summer has had me running all over. Went to Vermont for a family get together the end of June and since then it's been boating, rafting, fishing and horse back riding with a little jet skiing thrown in. Hope things slow down before I go hunting the end of September so I can take the trailer with me. This weekend looks promising.

Finally got back to doing some work on the trailer. I wasn't liking the height so I flipped the axle back over the springs. Put some new tires on and took it for a quick drive down the road and back without the tub on the frame. I like the looks a lot better now and it pulls great. Had a productive couple days. Did some welding on the front of the tub where it was damaged. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1409432837.670138.jpg
Went from this. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1409432874.271235.jpg
To this.
Also installed tale lights and clearance lights. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1409432975.546296.jpg
It's road worthy now. I'm thinking of taking it down to a local wheeling place here in ND and try out the off- road hitch and flex it out a bit. https://vimeo.com/104815191

Worked on fabing up a top for the trailer. Going to have a local fab shop bend up the sheet metal to skin it. I still will need some cross bracing to help strengthen it up. Liking it so far.

Haven't updated this in a while. A lot has happened since my last post. For one I'm back home in Utah working in SLC. Sure is great to be home. As for the trailer I ended up doing the top myself and added a trailer tongue box from HF. I'll just post some pics so you all can see how it's going. I'm pretty happy with how it's coming together. I had the bed along with the fenders sand blasted the other day. I just couldn't deal with all the rust. When the weather warms back up I'll get the spray gun out and spray on a bed liner from HF. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425242721.620982.jpg

cool trailer, I like what you've done with it. Got any more details about that hitch?

I'm going to say it's this style:

I found a design for the hitch on another forum using parts from Tractor Supply. It is a lot like the one I Lean has shown. It's been a fun project and I need to to get it done so I can use it this summer. Just have to get off my but and get it done. Being gone 12 hours a day for work hasn't helped.
