Falling Rock and Blacks

Ryan, Sean, Peter and Harold (all from Ut) came up to run some trails this weekend. Saturday we hit falling rock. Peter dropped the first obstacle and came out just fine. then Tony dropped in and grenaded his rear end. the third member seperated from the housing. (but after we winched him out of that hole, he drove it back to the trailer. then the rest of the group made it through the first obstacle with a few scrapes. the only other incident was a U-joint that seperated. we ended up finding all the parts and just put it back together. after we finished the trail, we had enough time to climb down into the trail again, and run the entrance backwards. we have never climbed the drop before and it turned out to be easier to climb up the drop than to come down it.

Then we had enough time to go play in the rock garden for a while before we headed back to the trailers

Falling Rock and Black Canyon (Idaho Camping Trip Aug 3rd and 4th)

Here's some notes I have too.... We started out from UT Friday evening to head Idaho Falls, got to camp around 11:30pm. Did a bit of chillin by the fire and then headed to bed. It was really nice temps up there and so if your looking for some cooler weather this is it (mid 50's at night).

We woke up around 7am, cranked up the fire and made a decent breakfast in preparation for Falling Rock trail. Everyone met up at the campsite around 8:30 then we headed out to the trail I had heard so much about.

It was about a 45min trip from our camp to get the rigs to the historical dam site. This trail starts out with a bunch of switch backs that get ya down to the bottom of the canyon created when the dam broke on June 5, 1976. This is awesome site to see, the boulders are the size of houses and garages that have been moved by water many miles down the canyon floor creating a 4x4 wonderland.

As we got to the canyon floor there was a gravel road running the length of the wash and we proceeded to the trailhead which was about a 1/2 mile in. The views are magnificent and the terrain varies from gravel road to impassable obstacles.

First thing I noticed was that you could pretty much get your tow rig and trailer to your rig if you catastrophically broke... good think to take note when you’re doing a hard trail for the first time. We also were told its about 3 to 4 hours worth of wheeling fun if you go without any issues.

As we entered the trail the beginning gate keeper would def keep anyone without two lockers out, but we had a Toyota with us that chooses to wheel without a front locker so I do know it can be done!!! Although mechanical or body damage could happen.

After finishing the trail we wrapped back around to the beginning and ran the gatekeeper backwards then messed around in the playground of immense boulders!!! What a fun time, my buggy looked like a little RC crawler making its way thru this huge fun park!!!

It was awesome Tony... here are couple of my favorites while we were wheeling the playground area... its about as gnarly as I've ever got and it streatched as far the eye could see!!!

Falling Rock is about 45min north of Idaho falls. Go with a local because it is hard to find the trail. I even drove past the entrance last month and I was one of the guys that built the trail.
