I just walked in the door from out little adventure... and what an adventure it was! Some of the highlights I saw were: The most die-hard RME members, 19 degrees, one luxury SUV on it's side, digging holes in rocky ground, a busted of mirror, plenty of cement mix & alot of teamwork to make this come together!
Everyone met up at the staging area for Rattlesnake, just off the highway. We headed up to Rattlesnake at just before 2pm with the signs in Kurts Tacoma.
With Kurt and Ollie running the Auger, we tried a couple of spots looking for just the right ground. After a few attempts, we settled on one that seemed to be the least rocky. We chose a spot on the right side of the beginning of the trail, right above where the Mine Tailings are. After mixing up a couple of bags of cement, we poured it in and set the first Sign. Not too bad....
A couple of the guys decided to run up Rattlesnake, so Kurt, Doug & I bypassed and went up Sunshine Canyon, to the North. We eventually made it to the Constrictor trailhead & unloaded some of the equipment. We tried a couple of holes again, untill we found the best spot to plant the sign. After we had the concrete halfway poured, Ollie came running up the trail... He said a FJ80 (Yeah, the nice ones!) was on it's side on Rattlesnake & they needed someone to pull him back over. We quickly finished the sign, then Cory (Coreshot) headed back down to assist with the recovery.
We all got there at about the same time and helped push the FJ back over, while Coreshot tugged on the otherside with the strap. Once the Land Cruiser was back on all 4, he was towed to the Trail Head where Kurt & Ollie pulled the plugs to make sure there wasn't any oil in the cylinders. This was about 5:30 and the sun was sinking fast! It got really cold, really fast. The wind wasn't helping any, either. After about 20 minutes, they figured there was out no oil to worry about, so the plugs were installed & the FJ was fired back up!
Everyone headed on their way after that, hopefully everybody made it home safely. It was nasty weather out there! Props to everyone willing to come out and work with this weather! You guys are way cool!
And a big thanks to everyone that participated in getting these signs built, they look really good in the ground!
I'm working on the pics....
