Just got back w/ the Scout. It had to stay up on the mountain for the night
When we left from attempting Wayne's World my brother & I both started driving down w/ a Red Cherokee behind us. When we noticed nobody else following we thought that ya'll had gone to go look at Constrictor. We found it. I rolled right next to the sign
I didn't realize the hill dropping down was that steep. I turned my wheels to the Left and the back end came up and we rolled 3/4 over and landed on the drivers side. My son, nephew's & I were fine, just a little shocked at what happened. I unbuckled myself then unbuckled the kids. The Passenger window wouldn't go down and the door wouldn't open (that was the worst feeling) My brother Brian and BIL Eddie were right behind us in his 53 M38A1 and said it went over so slowly that they didn't believe what they were seeing. They rushed up to us and pryed the door open and we climbed out and were relieved that we were fine. I was unable to get into the back and get my highlift jack out or any other tools. Jerome drove up in his red Bronco and drug the scout away from the wall of the small ravine. We tried and tried using his strap and my PTO winch cable to get us upright but couldn't. We gave up trying and he went for turkey & my brother & I ran down to the Suburban for the 2 ton come-along (missing its doubler pulley, rendering it as a 1 ton) and chains and chain loadbinders at 1pm. Called my wife at 1:30 and told her "I rolled the scout everyone's fine but we are trying to get the scout back on its tires. I'll call when we get back to the trailer". Eddie's mom called the Highway Patrol and told them to come and save us but they said that we were out of their area
When we got back to the scout at 2pm a family of ATV'ers gave us a hand for at least one hour. We wrapped chains around a perfectly placed sturdy tree & the comealong arm bent and it died so we were stuck to using the load binders one on each chain, one link at a time. But we were drained and wished we had a pipe to use as a cheater. We loaded all 6 of us into the Jeep and drove back to the Suburban at 4pm. Loaded the Jeep onto the trailer and drove home to split up to different places for Turkey dinner 3 hours late. Home at 5:45pm, so much for being back by 12 or 1pm
I hated to leave the scout for fear of damage being done by some scum of the earth types. I was fine w/ the scout. It looked in pretty good shape considering. I was mad that my $400 digital camera didn't fair to well in the rollover. I will see how the extended "cover everything" warranty turns out
This morning I got my Dad and Brother and we got a 4 ton comealong from CAL Ranch for $140. That thing is huge and heavy. We got Eddie and headed up in the Jeep at 10am(?) My brother ran into some old friends on the drive up that saw the scout minutes before and turned around and followed us up there and pulled it right side up in a matter of seconds w/ winches:bow: They headed back while we pulled the drivers side spark plugs and turned the engine over squirting oil all over the engine bay and Brian. We then topped off oil, axles & tcase. Fired up the Engine and oil sprayed from around the oil filter. We thought it might be a crack in the oil filter (I just now realized its probably my oil pressure line since its right in the area). So we were unable to drive it out. A fellow Woods Cross resident (gertsch) and friend were driving up the trail in his Jeep and pulled us up onto the road w/ his Champion $300 Costco winch and I'm sold on it. All the while a long line building up for Constrictor. At this point I was starting to feel like the person that ruined the party. They gave us a hand and went by and then Josh(UNSTUCK) and Scott (crawler12) came up to see if we were ok and towed us back and up onto the trailer. The drive back was w/o power steering and HyrdoBoost brakes so it was really fun
I've never been so happy to be back to a road. Slow drive back on Redwood road w/ a couple stops and 2 hours later home and showing off the battle scars the the neighbors
For the last few years I have been telling my wife "when I roll my scout..." & she would stop me and say "if you ever roll the scout" w/ me telling her "I WILL roll the scout. She never believes me
As far as roll overs go it could not have been better. It didn't seem real when it happened. Everyones fine and thats whats most important. In looking over the scout it needs a new roof, hood and doors. Anyone have any leads??? I've been telling my wife "It's Totaled so I guess I need to buy another scout:greg:
Thank you to all that helped. I think we would still be up there freezing our butt's of w/o ya'll.
Thanks, Brad J.
