Hey guys so Im starting to look into tires for when winter ends, or i win a few thousand dollars whichever comes first, since 3 of my 5 are getting super low on tread! Im running a 35x12.5r15 Old style MTR and I love them! I want to keep the jeep slightly DD capable for around town errands, I dont like to run my duramax for short runs if i can avoid it but have a work truck i get to use when Im on days on also. Ive always owned trucks equipped with offroad tires so you wont normally find me crying about a tire that has some road noise, as long as it doesnt shake fillings out.... The biggest thing Im worried about is offroad performance and a tire i can count on to get me back off the trail regardless what kind of crap I drive over!
Reasons Im still looking for what to go with based on others reviews and opinions:
MTRk's are hard to air down with the stiff sidewalls they have and i dont have beadlocks. Love everything else i hear about them, especially the price!
Toyo MT's have great reviews until they get older it seems, then i hear they harden up and dont stick to the rocks as well...
General grabbers have lots of ups and downs, one guy will scream they stick to the rocks epic next will say they barely hook up.....
KM2's I was kind of leaning towards also but a friend of mine ruined the sidewalls on these a few times on his rigs, maybe the KO2 will be a better set up???
Duratracs just dont have as mean of a tread pattern as id like, i do hear lots of good about them but it seems they are better for DD guys.
Pitbulls are epic but Im slightly undergeared for 35's already (4.10's). They pack on the weight, dont hear much else about them except heavy complaints honestly.
Maxxis Treps?!?!? Ive not heard about maxx treps for utah based rigs at all..... Looking for some feed back on the DOT rated ones as i do like to drive my jeep places other than the trail... At the same time i wouldnt be scared to run non DOT tires but it would probably ruin those tires WAY too fast for me to justify the cash.
There are tons of others too so dont be afraid to shout them out if you have something you really like! Honestly if I could find my way into 3 old style MTR's with lots of tread (like a spare someone almost never ran) Id stay MTR's till mine were bald as could be!!!
