I am still a newb when it comes to cars and will need all the help i can get. I bought it with the hopes my parents would let me tag along in their insurance.... BOY WAS I WRONG!!! so on top of school, I will be in search of a job to pay for my own insurance. ( oh well, cant be unemployed forever )

this is how it sits now.

Well while I am saving up to put a roll cage In, I was itching to do something to my 4Runner... We had a few cans of spray paint, and some masking tape laying around.. So I got to work. I ended up just masking the side decals and painted them black! I was getting tired of faded white on gold. I think it turned out pretty good. Not bad for my first paint job.

Well. She's getting closer to being able to compete in old school this year. I just bought about 150 feet of 1.5" Dom tubing. Now I just need to build a cage. I can't really afford to have someone build it for me yet. So, if someone is willing to help me build a cage I would be more than willing to buy pizza and drinks!

Well I'm getting ready to start designing a cage. And I'm stuck on a few ideas. My goal with this rig is to keep it street legal for as long as possible. And I'm stuck on doing an exo cage or interior cage, or even a hybrid cage. I like the protection of the exo cage but I don't like the look. I like the interior cage but just concerned about protection of the windshield frame. I don't want to roll over and have it so I can no longer replace the windshield. And I think if I do a hybrid cage I can get both. Do an interior cage with a little bit of exo cage around the cab and around the fenders.
Kind of like this

I am no cage expert, but in my XJ I had I liked the hybrid cage I built for head room, had all the over head tubes outside with vertical tubes inside (other then a-pillars) no tubes to trip over and nothing to hit my head on. With my 4runner I went with a 4xinovations internal cage, which I really like, but the 4runner doesn't have much room as it is, for me it works but 90% of my passenger hate it. You have to fit your legs past the a-pillar bars and the b-pillar hoop is just behind my head. Anyway my point is they both have pro'a and cons. If it where a DD like my XJ was at the time I would build it for comfort and safety. My 4runner is trail only and I love the setup for that.

I also tubed some outside and added exterior a-pillar tubes just to keep a windshield until it becomes an F-toy.... Anyway just for ideas....

I have always loved this cage I saw on pirate4x4. Still allows you to slide the top out the back too.

Yea, my plan is to do something almost exactly like yours! With Only a few things I would change. I really want to start competing in it and at the same time still be able to drive it around town every once In a while.. Or even daily drive it until I can buy a beater car.

I don't like exo cages so I say hybrid because the interior is too small (IMO) for a cage. The only hang up is the removal top...

I think I'm just going to go full interior and partial exo. Like gorillaxj's 4runner. But it would be built in stages. Like full interior cage to get me to old school this year, than solid axle swap, and than start adding the partial exo cage.

Course 1. Me on the teeter totter

And coming out of the tube I got hung up just feet away from the exit gate...
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1432521964.120266.jpg
I got so hung up on my ifs right after the first gate on course 3 that I had to get lifted out

Course 4 I was doing really well on. A few near rolls and was having some issues with my rear bumper that has been on there since the day I bought it getting wedged under the truck. I also blew up my front ring and pinion.

I thought I was going to call it a weekend and just spectate... Nope! The next day I started every single course and tried to get at least one gate before calling the course. I ended up blowing up my fan and cracking my radiator... I Placed 11 out of 15 which in my book is a win for being broken.

The plans for now are pretty much rebuild the whole 4Runner.
New fan
New radiator
Do the solid axle swap
Bob the bed
And add more tube to the cage and make a partial exo

Went and competed in The Colorado we rock a few weeks ago and my 4Runner is fighting back. I got stuck running the nastiest course first both days. And I broke in the same spot both days. I broke my tierod end the first day and then I broke the tierod link the second day.

I'm just waiting on some parts to start my solid axle swap.
