While I do agree with you that I'd like to see a larger pro-mod class, there is only one or two in that class. Not a lot of fun to compete for second place. Rather than trying to re-write the rules, what do you guys think about a bonus for a legends class to step it up to pro-mod? Perhaps a bonus for all who step it up a class?

yea one year we had promod and I got second out of three in that class, not all that satisfying...but that year there could have been 7or8 in that class not so many in legends, all in all it doesnt really matter to me, the event is just fun regardless. I might sell my buggy before this event, either way I will be there either driving or spotting someone else.

^I remember that year, and our conversation.^

If half of the class had run promod it would have been very competitive. No stress. I'll have fun either way.

b2 bomber. You really are over thinking it. You're rig is probably very close to being stock class. Additionally AT tires work very very favorably on the man made rock.

For the guys that haven't been out to Delta before: it is really a laid back competition, I love the fact that I can talk to others in my class about the lines and what worked and what didn't for them.
This event is really more like a huge party for 3 days with rock crawling for half of each day. It's a really really good time.

the rules have always said that the body engine and frame and axles have to be readily avaiable not all the same brand or make so B2 your fine in stock id bet money on. As for the Pro mod class i agree that there has been several rigs in legends that should be in promod and many that should of stepped it up to pro mod. If the promod class is short i will step it up for sure better to have a larger number in each class to make it more fun !

ok, so my interpretation of "must be oem" was incorrect. where i was coming from was as a mechanic if a guy brought me something like mine with any part that didn't come from the factory on that vehicle i would say "thats not OEM"

but there is still the other thing, when i did my frame swap i shortened the frame, i removed a 42" section, and replaced it with a 24" section of channel iron. (shortening a total of 18" out from the pickup truck frame's original wheelbase to fit the B2). the channel iron was 6" o.d. and the factory frame rails are 6" i.d. so i was able to sleeve the channel section inside the existing frame rails. i then boxed the frame at the joints, with 6" square plates. each joint has around 30" of weld bead in it.

which seems to interfere with:
1.3b
Frame rail modifications are not allowed,

i have competed in every old school. It is by far the best event i have every been apart of. You will not regret entering. Its all about a good time and good people. My buggy has fit into the Pro-mod class every year that this has been available and i have bumped myself up a class to unlimited every year to try and keep the classes fair. I know of a lot of people that have done the same. We all know what rig is capable of what. The old school is not your average event where people are trying to build this top of the line rig to fit into a lower class. There is no money or huge sponsors on the line. Thats why i love this event. I feel the class rules are fair and the tech guys do a great job of putting people into classes that fir them. If this is your first time coming to the old school my best advice is to know the class rules but also take them with a grain of salt make sure you have all of the safety rules done these are the important ones. Nobody will try and put you into a class that you will not be competitive and have a great time! You really will see once you are there how great it really is! Come out once and you will be hooked and back every year. We need a huge turn out to keep this around. I promise if this event goes away we as off-roaders will be missing out on the best event EVER!

Im thinking that some of the concerns of the stock class contenders is that they dont end up getting required to do unlimited lines like this with thier work commuter vehicle...LOL

dont worry..

imo the stock class is what this whole event is about. i love watching those guys. I feel it brings them into the sport and they just grow from there. We need as many stock guys as possible!

I like that the JK class can have tire sizing up to 40" with a point deduction of anything over 37". What about offering that in the other classes; same concept in Stock Class, and up to 42" or even 44" in Legend and Pro Mod? It just seems to me that more people are running larger tires, and this would accommodate for that. I know for myself, as an example, I really want my next set of tires to be 42s, but the 40" limit in Legend class keeps me from getting them.
Was there ever a decision made about this?

I like the rules the way they are now, and think they have worked well in the past. The tire size rule has been around competitions since they began, and for good reason. Even an inch or two taller is a huge advantage.

The typical street driven rig, which is what the stock class is designed to represent, is running a 35" or smaller tire.

If it's just a tire size issue keeping a guy out of stock class, I'd suggest he borrow a set of 37's from someone to get him legal.

I think Green Jeep is more concerned with the Legend class tire size than stock class. The stock class has been working well and is the most popular class. What if the Legend and JK class maximum tire size were moved up to 42" tires with the same 3 point penalty per inch of tire size? I would like to hear back from the teams on this.

Craig if we keep bumping up the tire size i think the penalty should increase too. If legends and JK classes can run a 42 inch tire with only a 3 point penalty per inch that is not much of a handy cap considering they are running an tire that is several inches taller and to a much great advantage. If a solid axle swap on a toyota is 15 point penalty then a 42 inch tire should be 10 points. the 3 points per inch rule is good up a certain point and im fine with the 42 inch tire bump but only if it adds a more severe penalty. my 2 cents

I agree with this. I do like opening up a legend class to a bigger tire. Its not easy to borrow tires. I know of a few people that would really benifit from this and a few people it would bring into the old school family! Im sure people are going to be ok with a penalty what ever it is just so they can be in a class that is funner for them!
