Vehicle Recommendations:
- 4x4 street-legal vehicle
- comfortable seats :)
- long gas range (250+ miles between fuel stops. You can use extra gas cans)
- extra fuel cans
- high ground clearance (stock vehicles are fine)
- full-size spare tire

We don't have many requirements. I would just add that nobody blast their stereo at camp. I camp to get AWAY from the noise of everyday life (and I love music). Thanks.

Here's the info on the original UTBDR. Our route is a modified version of this route.

Here is the problem.. the 20th is deer opening weekend.. I was planning on taking the 22-24th to be in blanding for hunting.. So taking the previous week off gets a bit un-wise financially. But how much better could this be timed?!? Ending in Blanding where I need to be! A Week of trails followed by a few days of hunting.. Could life get better? I think Not!
I must talk to my wife..

If you plan on coming, post up what you drive as well. I think Lockhart basin will be the toughest spot on the trail, but I'll know more after I watch the DVD.

I've just gotta say, this trip is going to be incredible. I'll get GPS tracks up in a bit. I wish I had 2 weeks to complete this trip. This isn't going to be your super relaxing, laid-back, sleep in 'till noon camping trip. We are going to cover some GROUND!

has everyone here been to newspaper rock? We have 4 potential routes from Moab to Blanding and I'm trying to decide on which one.

1) lockhard basin rd --> needles outpost --> newspaper rock
2) skip Moab City, and head east around the La Sals (my vote, but it's a long way between gas stations).
3) down around the east side of the La Sals
4) down around the west side of the La sals

I vote for option 2, especially since most people will be in full-size rigs. But if you guys want to brave lockhart, I'm definitely in. Let me know what you want to do. I'll add a poll at the top.

About the poll,

I'd split it into two different polls with the same options.
Poll 1: open to anyone who wants to voice their opinion and if comments are available, why
Poll 2: open to only those on the confirmed list to decide the direction of the trip

Good idea. Unfortunately, I can't edit the poll. If you're not going, but you have info/an opinion, feel free to post it up here.

This sounds awesome! I can't make the whole thing but hopefully I can do a couple days. Depending on if I pick my truck up in time. I'm excited about being able to do some of these runs again.

I'm really interested in the trip report from this trip because I'd like to do the inverse trip. I'm not talking run it from south to north, I'm thinking I'd like to spend a few nights at each campsite y'all find (and a point midway between) and really explore the area around each campsite. Obviously not a single trip, but you get the idea. Something else I'd like to do is to pick a particular place that I enjoy camping and do a photo documentary of that place across all of the seasons.

cool, hopefully you can make it. It should be a pretty cool trip before the snow flies.

yeah, I hear ya. I'm mainly want to scout out all these sites for future trips. I've never been from Bear Lake to the Uintas, I've never done 9 mile canyon, and I've never been close to the la sal mtns. I've only done about 10% of this trip before. There will be many more trips that come out of this one, once I know my way around. My Benchmark atlas has marks on more than half the pages now!

its just not worth driving that far for one day, i would love to the whole thing. but it also sounds expensive

I do not think it will be that bad.. Not mush more then a regular camping trip for a few days. Most of the time will be traveling, no?

I am still working on getting the weekend off... I will try to hit whatever I can thought. So for me, going from bear lake down would be better, at least I think.
