San Rafael Trip

Here's a couple google earth files (attached). One is South Coal and Eva Conover and the other is the route to the Wild Horse Camp Site from I-70. Take exit 131 on I-70 to get to Wild Horse. Follow the signs to Temple Mtn. There is a road that heads south just before going in the reef at Temple Mtn. The Camp Site is just a little ways down that road.

That's right. The Wild Horse camp site is near the beginning of that road. Wild Horse is not the same as Little Wild Horse. That's a different canyon. The google earth route I posted is the route from I-70 down Temple Mtn Road to the Wild Horse camp site on Behind the Reef Road.

You can backtrack from the campsite and head over to Little Wild Horse via the Goblin Valley Rd.

Cody, isn't this that camp site you are talking about?

This is how I'm posting the info. on the other boards:

A group of us four-wheelers are going to be riding through the San Rafael Swell on Feb. 20-22. Here’s our schedule:

Fri., Feb. 20: Meet at Gilly’s convenience store in Ferron, UT at 8 a.m. Leave for reef at 9 a.m. Taking the South Coal Wash through the Reef, to I-70 and down to Temple Mtn. Near Temple Mtn. we’ll take a right (s) into Behind-the-Reef/Wild Horse Road (Not “Little Wild Horse,” which is a Canyon). We’ll camp there the first night.

Sat., Feb. 21: Hike a few narrows. Possibly Little Horse and Bell, possibly Ding and Dang.

Sun., Feb. 22: Yet to be determined but will probably do some creative wheeling on our way out of the Swell.

Let me know if you want to join us!

That sounds great to me. I'd make one small edit...

"Taking the South Coal Wash to I-70 and down to Temple Mtn."

South Coal doesn't actually go through the reef.

Looks like I won't be making this one  I've been going like a mad man trying to get my truck ready, but as bad luck would have it my third member is making a bad vibration at the last minute...

Anyway hope you guy's have a good time. Take a ton of pics

EDIT: Umm nevermind I'm still in after all. After a 5 degree morning wrench fest I think I might have soved my problem :D

We're getting down to the wire. Is this trip still on? I'm basically packed and ready to go.

Is anyone bringing firewood. I'm thinking of trying to bring some. It's a little cramped in the yj, but I'll try.

Great news Rot Box! I guess I'm not the only been working in frigid temps.

Sorry. Have to help out a good cause. I'll still get another half dozen trips in down there this year.
