Always wanted to try a tomahawk ribeye. I eye them down every time we’re at Harmons. Decided today was the day. I did this, roasted veggies and my neighbor smoked some Mac n cheese. It was killer! Definitely do it again. Smoked at 225 for about an hour and a half and then seared it on the grill.

We didn't cook anything today.. just lived off of Recces peanut butter trees. I could REALLY use some good meet right now.

Holy smokes. I don't know what I was smoking that day... but I am embarrassed by my own spelling :ugh:

Maybe I should lighten up on other people I criticize for not knowing how to spell on the internet...

I did what started as a 14 lb brisket Saturday. I cut like 5 lbs of fat off. Separated the point and flat. Obviously did burnt ends with the point. It was my first brisket. It fed me and my brothers family Saturday then us again yesterday. It was tasty.

In terms of cost, it wasn’t that bad. I think I paid $45 and it fed 4 adults.

in terms of cooking, it was pretty straightforward and easy. Smoke until it hits 115 and then sear on both sides for a few minutes and let rest. The hardest part was deciding on how to season it.

Pellets. What are you guys using.

I had been buying them from BBQ Pit Stop on 3rd west and 13th south but since that store closed and moved to Murray I hadn't bought any in a while. I was using BBQ Delight which was like a 25# bag for like $18. When I was first looking at smokers I read about Lumberjack pellets and saw that guys were selling them on KSL but didn't get any. Since running out and not smoking anything for a while, and with the pit stop closed, I found a guy selling the lumberjack ones and bought some in SoJo. I thought the price was good and I used pecan for that brisket which turned out really well. $16 for 40# bags and $9 for the 20# bags. Cheaper than what I was using but still you gotta figure out a time to go to the guys house and whatnot. I bought a bunch though and think this is the way to go for me.

Turns out the guy used to live right across from hunter high and in the last year his house/fence got ran into 3 times so they decided it was time to move. He just got in a new shipment so I'm hoping to get a bag of the maple/hickory/cherry and one of the charblend hickory (which is like a charcoal pellet to try out.

Nate,

I would look around ksl or facebook, I can find lumber jack pellets for around 8.00 per bag in Utah county.. But maybe I have a hook up not sure. My wife's friend lets her know when they are putting in a order and I buy a few bags..

I love bbq pit stop. And have used their pecan which is a nice mild smoke. I’ve used the treager gourmet blend from Costco with good results. The best brisket I’ve ever made was with treager beef (or maybe it’s called brisket) pellets. May have been coincidence.

Have any of you guys seen produce stands yet? Is it still a little early for that? Especially interested for the west side...

I'm thinking I need some corn on the cob for dinner tonight.

There were several open in Orem over the weekend. Not exactly the west side, (not at all...) but they were open.

I nutted up and did a Tomahawk from harmons. Tasty but basically prime rib with a huge bone. Was fun but I’d rather just eat a nice standard ribeye.

I am excited to give it a try @TRD270 - I am currently attempting to see if I can fix the knob, but so far haven't had much luck. If I could get a new knob switch, I could easily solder it to the circuit board, and be good to go.

My lovely wife was nice enough to get me a bag of hickory pellets though.
