Tired of getting harrassed by cops

I work from 2:00pm to 10:00pm everyday, and sometimes I will run uptown in Logan to buy groceries afterwords. In the distance from 4th West to Smiths on 4th North 1st East (about 8ish blocks for those who care...) I have counted up to 17 patrol cars whether it's highway patrol or Logan city. That's at 10:00 at night on a weekday! And there are usually there are 2 officers per car...

When you have that many eyes looking for "illegal" things there is going to be hell to pay. In those 8 blocks I have been pulled over alot - almost weekly, and up to 3 times in one night for no reason at all except suspision, and still I haven't gotten a ticket yet because I wasn't breaking the law!

I don't know what I'm trying to get at, but If I were looking for "illegal" things then I'd probably look for 4x4's too... expecially if I had any army behind me :-\

Oh and Carsmell - It's true the ones with closed mouths often have open minds.

A few thoughts....

1) While agree that we have the right to drive, we also have the responsibility to do so in accordance with the law. We when fail to excersize our responsibilities, we can loose our rights.

That is the way civil society works. Forutnately, we live in a nation and state where we can have an impact on the laws. If you do not like the way things are, get involved!

If we don't, we are treating laws like the weather, everyone complains but no one does anything about it.

2) I agree that we should not have laws that require seat belt usage (for adults). I would be tempted to say that we have the Constitutional right to be stupid, but many otherwise bright people miss seeing the importance of seat belts.

Sorry, 4554x4, for the loss of your son.

3) Failure to maintain legal rigs gives our sport a black eye.

Be a reponsible wheeler not just on the trails, but on the highways as well.

It's a privilege. If you comply with the rules the government sets for you to operate a MV on state/federal roads, then you have the right to drive. If you don't, no driving. Seems pretty simple to me.

So are you saying you think it is a privilege if we break the rules and a right if we obey them...I'm confused:confused:. You start by saying it is a privilege but then in the next sentence say if we keep the rules it is a right. Which one do you think it is?

PS I think in Utah the gas tax gets thrown into the general tax fund with everything else and the roads get taken out of the general tax fund...but I could be wrong.

Agree, and alot of them are younger than me and I'm 22

Doubt it. And what do they say when they stop you? There has to be a reason, my guess would be your not telling the whole story. If they REALLY are stopping you multiple times per week for no reason then contact their supervisors and find out why they stopped you. I wouldn't think they'd risk their career, house, vehicles, family, retirement, etc just to pull you over and have no reason to.

Disliking the way I made a left turn, possible licence plate light out, not seeing me signal, lift might be too high, tires looking like they stick out too far, possibly crossing the median, looked like I was shouting at my girlfriend when we where actually laughing, tailgating, these are just a few of the reasons I have been pulled over. And I haven't gotten a ticket yet because it was an excuse to see if I had been drinking or that I had a suspicious looking vehicle.

You want more or is that good enough?

Do you tires stick out? Cause that is all they need, (I know first hand, got a cite from a Trooper few years back.) Was your plate light out?

I agree that getting pulled over for a seemingly "exceuse" to do so sucks, but if you are not getting tickets then I would count yourself lucky. Any of the reasons mentioned above are good enough grounds for a cop to pull you over, and if by doing this they actually do get drunk drivers off the roads, then I say they should do it more often.

Driving back from Lil' Moab the other day I had some vehicle problems and could only do a top speed of 30 mph. I got pulled over twice. Cops were really nice, just wanted to make sure everything was ok. It would have been easy, easy, easy for them to give me a ticket (tires stick out, side mirror had broken off, bumpers too high, turn signals didn't work etc...), but they didn't.

As a whole, police have the general welfare of the public in mind. You know if you were breaking the law when you get pulled over. If you don't want to get pulled over you also need to have the general welfare of the public in mind. No mud flaps or fenders can lead to broken windshields.

I feel as though police should enforce the mud flap thing stronger, as I have had multiple cracks, stars, etc...from rocks getting tossed up by rigs without flaps. It's really easy to put flaps on your truck, and it's also real easy to make 'em removable.

My rig is not street legal in the technical definition. That's why I only drive it to and from the trail and, where possible, I tow it. Every time I go out and don't get a ticket I consider myself lucky.

Additionally, every time I go out with my rig, I drive it like it is built to drive...Slow, slow, slow with plenty of caution. The suspension is not built for high speeds, and I'm lucky to have the privilege to drive such a modified vehicle (which I don't feel is nearly as safe as a stock vehicle).

All of you whiners crying about the UHP need to shut up. They are here for your benefit. I am sick and tired of hearing about being pulled over for nothing. That is a straight line of bull ****!!

Never have I been pulled over for "nothing"! There is always a reason. Light out? Against vehicle code = pulled over... Driving like a jackass? Again, against the law = pulled over... Tires too wide ( do I really have to get into this)

Suspicious looking?? Get a haircut!! Ok, that one was stretching, but come on. Would you rather we didn't have protection or some one looking out for us?

Seriously, if you don't like it, get political, get elected, and change it. Quit crying on the internet about how unfair the lift laws are or how your POS looks like a death trap and you get pulled over every time you leave the drive way.

Those laws aren't just to protect you from yourself, they are to protect me from your junk falling apart on the freeway in front of me.

I have driven truck in most of the Western US, Utah is the ONLY place I have seen a trooper changing a flat on the side of the road for a stranded motorist.

I am not saying troopers don't abuse their authority, but think about it. It could be a lot worse!!

So shut up! Get it legal! And quit crying about it!

All good points (although I dare say someone was in a bad mood when typing:-\ ).

It really is surprising (and appreciated) how often I have seen UHP helping with a flat.

Not in a bad mood, just tired of the whining. I have a lifted dodge on 35's. I drive it every where I go, I have NEVER been pulled over. The reason(s)??

It's legal, I have mudflaps, I have fender flares, I don't speed, I use my blinker...... etc. etc. I pass state inspection legally! If I have to do it for a streetable vehicle, so should every one else.

Like I said "never gotten a ticket". My tires looked like they stick out, my licence plate looked like it was missing it's light, ect, ect...

I'm not whining I'm simply saying that if they pull someone over for things like that than they will most likely catch someone for something else when they get a closer look at the vehicle thus being 4x4's. BTW: I take pride in knowing that my trucks legal, and that I can correct them on their misjudgement. But your right my mullet might look a little scetchy :-\

Ahhhhhhh. Free will

Do we ever come to your places of employment and question how you folks do your jobs?

Do we question why things are done one way when it would be a lot easier for the client/customer if you did it our way?

Do we bother you while you eat your lunch, Just to ask you a silly question about Trolley Square, 9-11 or Virginia tech?

Do we get mad when we call you with questions at 1559 hours and you tell us you are closing at 1600 hours?

I'm sure it happens from time to time, but this is everyday for me, dirty looks for getting a drink at 7-11 and thumbing through a magazine. Yelled at for giving you a ticket, even after being told that I should patrol YOUR neighborhood for speeders more often.

I love fabricating, I love wheelingand I enjoy operating my rig from time to time on pavement, but I also enjoy my job besides the above mentioned. Nothing feels better than taking a wife beater or dope dealer to jail.

Guess what, there are more traffic violators than all of the wife beaters and dope dealers combined.

I don't stop for mudflaps or lifts or flares unless I have another motive, guess what, that is one of the main ways I get drunks off of our roads, if I mistakingly pull you over and you are not drunk, you get off without a ticket because I am being nice.

To the guy in Logan, I'll call my buddies up there and tell them to write you for everything even if you are not drunk, hell, they were probably just giving you a break because they were wrong, yet you look at it as some kind of vast money making conspiracy designed to bring you down.

I am a lurker, I don't post much, sometimes I feel an opinion from the other side is a good thing.

Rant off.

i highly doubt he's serious:rolleyes: .... but seriously, i get tired of the whining threads... obey the laws/vehicle restrictions, understand some areas might be patrolled more, come to terms that some cops'll get ya and some'll let you go...

but in my opinion, complaining does nothing.... nothing..

If I ever see you at a freakin' 7-11, thumbing through a magazine and getting drink, I'll...........

.........offer to pay for it, because you guys have a tough freakin' job. UT needs to pay its troopers, especially, much better than it does now.

I've only ever been pulled over for damn sure breaking the law. Speeding, usually. And 9 times out of 10 I was dealt with VERY generously. That includes BEING LET GO with 70 in a 65 outside of Wellington, when I was clocked at 109. Let off with mudflap warnings in my XJ, which I fixed. Pulled over in a van full of guns and ammunition for a blown headlight, fix it ticket only. I can NOT complain about too many UT cops. I travel enough to see how it COULD be, and I am convinced UT cops do a good job with a minimum of intrusion.

That is all.
