UTV's are easily made street legal..

I think they can be made street legal for farming or agricultural communities.. just as you can utv's, but i don't think you could ever take one and smog it in California for example..

I think Hickey is right.. i dont think class rules would allow them to link. Really they shouldnt even been able to race in that class as they aren't street legal. Im sure the utv guys would have thrown a fit but thats the class they should have been in.

It's not a utv though. It's a leaf sprung cj clone with less than 150hp (even after tuning). And that's why it fit perfectly in that class. It's a spirit of the law thing. About 3 people whined super loud and no stock linked rig won anyways... a Toyota pickup won the class this year on leaf springs.

If you read Jesse's thread you see all the drama unfold and then people realize that it's not worth the effort to complain when a JK makes about double the HP and is linked and has better wheelbase stock to begin with. Jesse likes to build cool stuff unconventionally.

Stopped into moto united in draper today and checked out a roxor they had a lift and tires on. It did look like a lot of fun to drive..

Actually it is a utv.... why do you think they're only being sold at atv/utv dealers. If it was a jeep clone then you could buy one and license it just like you can a jeep.. but you cant, cuz its a utv/farm equipment unit. If you read the rules of that class its street legal us production vehicles... and as far as I'm aware you must adhere to your factory suspension... so if it came with leafs it has to stay leafs... a leafed toyota winning the emc has nothing to do with what we're talking about... i have a 4wd quad.. i can buy mirrors and blinkers for "streer legal" should i race that in that class as well... since you know its "street legal" and in the spirit of the class? i get thats its a copy cat jeep but it's still not drivable on 95% of us roads.. they shouldn't have let Jesse race it period. Now maybe a bunch of Miranda owners want to start their own class ay KOH, pitch it to Dave.. i have no problems with them in their own class.. or race in the utv class cuz they actually adhere to those rules on paper... or I'm completely wrong about that class lol and am talking out my ass Hahahaha

If you read the rules it doesn't say "street legal" it says "production type." they may change the rules next year but the reason he was able to race is because he slotted into it what the rules read.
Interpretation is the key here.

You can't neglect the fact that Dave wants people to be excited about racing and getting people excited to race and ultimately pay race entry fees and get exposure is what what Dave Cole wants - when 1 man makes the rules... they get bent. It probably doesn't hurt that Jesse brings interest with his builds.

Not much different than how Baldwin "bought his way" into the main race in 2017. He paid a driver (who already had qualified to race) to drive his (BJ's) car off the start line, then he pulled over and they switched spots. I watched it from the pits with my own eyes.

Anyways. I think they're rad little rigs and I'm definitely going to go test drive one and report on it.

Yeah.. thats bs too on Baldwin.. .money talks though, i guess lol.. yeah im in agreement with ya with them pushing the rules thats racing too.. it would be an awesome class to race! The pnw would be a strong force with those lol.. We're still leaf spring capitol of the world hahaha

Cliffhanger rentals in Moab rents them. I was tempted to ask for a test drive the other day but I chickened out.

That is closer than the Motorcycle/ATV dealership I saw them on while in North Carolina this past week.

Two of my co workers have bought them. They put the street legal kit on them and drive them all over town in Southern Utah. One did the stage 2 or 3 tune which eliminates the 45mph governor. He said he could cruise 80 if wanted. After seeing what stan does in his Little jeep I think these with a lunch box locker front and rear would be great little trail rigs with 32 or 33s.

I agree, I think they're super cool, but I dislike how they can only be licensed as a UTV. Here in Utah it's not such a big deal, but in Nebraska where I'm from, that's simply not possible to do, unless it's for farm use. One thing that did cross my mind, was getting the drive train out of a wrecked one, and swapping into an older CJ.

I'm a fan. I seriously want one. It would be perfect for the kids to learn to drive and wheel some easier trails. I just can't swing that sticker price. I'm likely going to make a dedicated trip to Moab to rent one from Cliffhanger. I think it would be so much fun.
