A Plea For HELP! To Anyone Within A Reasonable Distance Of American Fork Canyon

Well, Friday morning was going to be my time to load the trailer and pack for the Rubicon... but not now.

I'll do as much packing/prep as I can tomorrow, then I'll meet with you guys at Tibble Fork at 7:30 and head up.

In that case, feel free to put some anchors and straps in today/tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about blocking the trail because it only goes a couple hundred feet past my truck and anyone trying to get around it would be endangering it big time anyway.

And on the note of gear, Kurt had volunteered his pull pal also, if anyone is up that way and can get in contact with him.

Talked with MicahMan and being so late in the day he is unable to head up with me.
At this point i would like to at least check on it make sure it still there and hasn't been messed with.

Still looking for someone to head up with me. I am able to go anytime and could be at the parking lot in about 1 hour.

I am worried that attempting to anchor the vehicle could upset its current footing but then again, until i see it for myself i wouldn't know. I also do not have anything to use as an anchor.

I would be worried about that too. We moved it 2 inches and it shifted downhill another 8.

Yes. My main concern with welding them at the top is that there may be rocks in the way when you go to pound it in. I think if you pounded them in at an angle that woudl help. Or maybe you could make loops like the eye of a needle at the top.

The pulpalls should probably be a last resort, the ground is very hard and they don't dig down very well.

For what its worth with mine we did consider anchoring the front or rear, pivoting it to get the vehicle pointing downhill, then allow the vehicle to ride the brakes down or winch itself down. Its steep but seemed doable when i was there.

Guess I don't understand what you're saying. If I weld a T at the top of the bar, it will get in the way of rocks below? The T is just prevent a strap from slipping off the bar. Will 4 anchors be enough?

no, the t won't get in the way, but if you have 2 bars spaced 6" apart, you may not find a spot that's free of rocks for 6". Imagine trying to drive a fork into rocky ground. One or two of the prongs may clear rocks, but if the other 2 hit rocks, it's not going in at all. that's what I meant.

Team 1K, I think that's the same exact spot. I think it'd be possible to lower someone down to the next switchback, but it's quite a ways and I'm not sure a winch cable is long enough. It's definitely an option though.

We do get ourselves in predicaments, don't we. I think we've all been in similar situations at one time or another.

Yeah its for sure the same spot. i really feel for the OP on this. FWIW there is a set of bushes/trees in front of the vehicle that i winched off. It required all 100' of my cable and a 25' snatch strap to reach it though.

I've got my crazy long winch extension strap, snatch block, tree strap, high lift, como-a-long, some 5k lb ratchet straps, log chain, and a handfull of shackles. Looking to work out having my sister over for dinner on saturday so I should be able to make it.

I'll see if I can make it, I've got a yj with 10000 lb winch and shovels, sledge hammer, chains and always willing to listen to Bart
